Sony’s PlayStation 4 is still in the lead as the most sold console, with Microsoft’s Xbox One and Nintendo’s Switch lagging behind by almost a mile. There are 63.3 million consoles sold as of June 30 and it is still on its rise.
Since Microsoft has not published its current sales on Xbox One, it was estimated that it has sold around 30 million units — which makes Sony’s PlayStation 4 a Goliath of console sales, considering that Microsoft’s Xbox One is its “closest competitor.”
Nintendo Switch, meanwhile, is estimated to have sold an estimated 5 million units in its lifespan. Nintendo estimated the number of 10 million sales in its first year, which is almost twice of Sony’s expected sales of PlayStation 4 consoles in the same year by 18 million.
There are a number of factors that can possibly impact this rise on sales. One most notable and impactful effect on gamers is that PlayStation 4 offers more critically acclaimed exclusive games such as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Bloodborne.
Initially, PlayStation 4 was the less expensive console compared to Microsoft's Xbox One when it was released in 2013 which is $100 less than the Xbox One.
To keep this rise in an all-time high, Sony plans to offer more exclusive games for the PlayStation 4, including software updates to provide a better gaming experience.
