Hollywood’s “gender pay gap,” as what a BBC article calls it or the “inequality in the paychecks” for Forbes, has become more evident as one considers the recent earnings of a bad boy rapper-turned-model-turned actor.
Mark Wahlberg topped the list of the world’s highest-paid actors for 2017, reported Forbes.
Yes, it’s not only in Hollywood.
The former Marky Mark and Calvin Klein poster boy, who just turned 46 on June 5, earned $68 million, more than what Robert Downey, Jr. (48 million) and Tom Cruise (43 million) did.
Now for the ladies of the silver screen, multi-awarded actress Emma Stone was the best-paid among her female peers.
The 28-year-old actress Arizona native, who bagged her first Golden Globe for her role in the 2016 musical rom-com, “La La Land,” earned $26 million.
That’s a difference of $42 million.
Wahlberg's recent films include “Deepwater Horizon” and “Patriots Day” in 2016 and “Transformers: The Last Knight” and the upcoming “Daddy’s Home 2” for 2017.
If the earnings of the 20 highest-paid actors, as compiled by Forbes, were to be combined, it would total to a whopping $720 million.
As for the top 20 actresses, the tally ran a total of $172.5 million
The figures provided by Forbes are pretax figures and were earned between June 1, 2016 and June 1, 2017.
Three Indian actors and one Chinese made it to the top 10 list.
