1. Meditation texts (Deuteronomy 1)

2. The Word of Grace (Deuteronomy 1:16~17, NIV)
16 And I charged you judges at that time: Hear the disputes between your brothers and judge fairly, whether the case is between brother Israelites or between one of them and an alien.
17 Do not show partiality in judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be afraid of any man, for judgment belongs to God. Bring me any case too hard for you, and I will hear it.

3. Meditation Contents
Deuteronomy is the same as the conclusion of the Pentateuch.
It is the same testament that Moses, the author of the Pentateuch, gave to the nation of Israel at the end of his life.

It is a guide to the next leader, Joshua.
We should pay attention to the meaning of having a word for trial at the very beginning of Deuteronomy.
At this time, Israel was already a large community beyond the tribal nations.
Although Israel was a kinship community, it was already a huge society, and a fundamental system that is righteous judgments was needed to sustain a society that everyone could agree on.
It is fairness(Misitapa) and justice(Chedek) that God wants for the people of Israel.
The Israel is the kingdom of God on this earth where everyone stands equally before the law of fairness and justice from God.

4. Word application
Verse 17 says, 'When we judge, don't look at the appearance, listen without discrimination, and don't be afraid of people.'
And verse 16 says, ' Will do it same to foreigners.'
Because God is the Creator of all beings.
The only way to overcome the sin of my taste that human beings can commit is to endeavor to follow the Creator's Word by recognizing God the Creator and realizing that I am a creature.

5. Apply Prayer
Thank you, God of love.
We hope that this world we live in will become a world of “fairness and justice” commanded by the Lord.
Let me do it with 'fairness and justice' in my life!
I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
