[아시아뉴스통신=레악카나 기자] President Donald Trump's fresh efforts to undermine medical and scientific experts and his failure to ask the country to make the sacrifices that could quell the coronavirus are consigning America to a constantly worsening pandemic with no clear route back to health.
Trump recommitted to the strategy which defies the example of nations that have at least temporarily beaten back the virus by blasting the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on reopening schools on Wednesday as "very tough and expensive." Within hours, head of the White House coronavirus task force,Vice President Mike Pence, said the CDC would issue new guidelines.
The comments set off a wave of confusion about the vital question of school openings. Dr. Robert Redfield, who leads the CDC emphasized on Wednesday that the guidelines should in no way slow Trump's push to reopen all schools within weeks.
Dr. Ashish Jha, faculty director at Harvard's Global Health Institute, warned that the CDC guidelines were the minimum requirement to open schools and warned of a long-term educational disaster if the openings were not properly planned. It was another reminder that Trump's goal is to secure a return to normal life as soon as possible, in schools, in the economy and even in sports.
