Local governments in the UK have 33 percent of women as their councilors, based on a report by the English and Welsh local governments. Moreover,  according to the report from the Fawcett Society, little has changed in government and they are still living in the past based on how they view women. And the situation of women got worse in 10 years.

Women, together with minority groups, are having a hard time landing a position in local governments because 80 percent of council seats go to the ones who won in the previous elections.

It would be difficult to penetrate a world where males have the upper hand.Even if the Labour party took action to have 50 percent of female participants in the assembly, it was not enough. The Welsh local government is still being left behind even with the efforts of the Labour party.

Even new forms of governance did not contribute to the advocacy of adding female councilors. But, though they formed combined authorities and the new positions of metro mayors, no woman was elected.

However, there can still be a chance to include more women in the local government if they really want to initiate change and everyone has to do be a part of that change.

Justin Trudeau, the Canadian prime minister, when asked why he appointed 50 percent women as his cabinet members, he answered, “Because it’s 2015.”
